How can I design my own logo?

Edited

Creating a customized logo for your business is a great way to convey what you do and increase the perceived value of your brand. Not only will a great logo help people to formulate a visual association with your business, but if done strategically, it can help attract new clients too. Your logo can be used on your website, your business cards, flyers, and more!

We have put together the following list of resources you can use to create your very own, unique logo. Please note that for each company listed, pricing and policies are subject to change over time.

Featured Logo Resources

These are some of our top picks in terms of cost, usability, and features. If you're using your LiveEdit/IIN Health Coach Website, you'll want to use one of the options that doesn't require you to buy a separate website.

  1. Squarespace

The Lowdown:

Paid Squarespace Accounts – If you have a paid, active Squarespace site, you can download high resolution logos for free.

Trial Accounts (and anyone else) – If you don’t have a paid Squarespace account, you can download low resolution watermarked logos for free. High resolution images can be purchased for $10.

The Bottom Line:

Squarespace makes it easy to get started with your logo in a matter of seconds. Their design tools are easy to use and their images are very basic but clean-looking. Overall, this is a great resource for anyone looking to create a logo that is modern, fresh, and inexpensive.

  1. Graphic Springs

The Lowdown:

Graphic Springs enables you to create your own logo for free, but it costs $39.99 to download it. For the price, the logo is high resolution, watermark free, and may be used anywhere online.

The Bottom Line:

Like Squarespace, Graphic Springs makes it easy to get started with your logo right away. Their design interface is clean and intuitive and they offer plenty of color graphics, organized by category, which you can incorporate into your logo. For the cost, you retain all usage rights, which is a definite plus.

  1. Fiverr

The Lowdown:

Fiverr is an online marketplace where freelance designers and other professionals offer jobs and services that begin at a cost of $5 to customers worldwide. Customers can view ratings, reviews, and details about services being offered before making a purchase.

The Bottom Line:

With Fiverr, you are putting your logo into the hands of a designer. This requires that you are willing to work with another person’s concepts and ideas rather than having complete creative control yourself. Fiverr might be a good choice if you’re looking to create a logo that is multi-faceted and complex, or if you feel more comfortable working with a professional than creating a logo on your own.

  1. LogoMaker

The Lowdown:

With LogoMaker, you can use a design tool to create your own logo, then download it as

a high resolution file for $49. Alternatively, instead of downloading the high resolution version, you can copy the HTML code for your logo and paste it into your website for free to display your free logo (there is no fee or time limit on how long you can use this free logo).

The Bottom Line:

With LogoMaker, you have the opportunity to create a logo for free, with limitations. However, their overall web appearance, the graphics they offer, and the usability of their site seems somewhat dated. LogoMaker is a decent place to begin if you aren’t ready to invest money into a logo just yet. But if you’re ready to purchase the rights to your logo now, we recommend going with a site that offers fresher designs.

  1. Vistaprint

The Lowdown:

You can create a logo for free if using it on custom Vistaprint marketing products, or get a unique, professional logo designed for a fee (pricing varies).

The Bottom Line:

Vistaprint makes sense if you plan to use your logo specifically on products they offer (e.g. business cards, marketing materials, etc.). Otherwise, you’re better off creating and purchasing a logo from a site that entitles you to use it anywhere, including your website.

Other Resources You Might Consider

Note that these sites are likely to offer more in the way of comprehensive business packages, and the opportunity to work one-on-one with experienced professionals. However, they will likely cost more than the resources listed above.
