What's the difference between CEUs and college credits?
A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized method of quantifying time spent in a classroom (online or in-person) for professional development and training. CEUs provide a permanent record of continuing education for individuals who need to submit proof to their employers, unions, professional associations or licensing agencies. In addition, CEUs may be applied to a multitude of professions in order to fulfill education requirements to obtain/maintain professional certification or licensure. CEUs are not transferrable as college credits.
A College Credit (credit hour, credit unit) is a nationally recognized method that quantifies the value, level and time requirements of an academic course taken at the college/university level. Upon successful completion of IIN’s program, students will be able to apply the equivalent college course credits. Obtaining college credits is the best option for students looking to apply their IIN education to an undergraduate or master's degree.
Do CEUs count towards a college degree?
No, CEUs count towards a Continuing Education Certificate. In many instances, employers and unions invest in their employees/members by sponsoring professional development through the acquisition of CEUs. Check with your employer or union to see if you qualify for subsidized tuition or tuition reimbursement for programs sponsored by continuing education providers such as The State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase College.
